MTA: Stop wasting our transit dollars! Leave your $4 billion new headquarters and restore service, pay workers fairly and avoid fare hikes.

The building at 370 Jay St. in Brooklyn was built for New York City Transit (MTA) in the 1950’s. It is the only building in the City where the tracks for all three original subway systems -- the IRT, BMT, and IND -- come together. It has a fully functioning command center for the transit system. And it costs the MTA basically nothing -- $1 per year over the long-term lease.

But the MTA wants to get rid of 370 Jay Street. It is in the process of removing all personnel from the building, and at the same time, the MTA is paying $60 million a year for an office tower at 2 Broadway in Manhattan.

370 Jay saves the MTA and riders $60 million a year. Let’s re-occupy 370 Jay Street and use the $60 million savings to restore bus service in Brooklyn, support a modest cost of living raise for workers, and keep fares from rising in 2013.
