The transit system is New York City's lifeblood. Our city's economy as well as our cultural vitality depend on it. It's part of what makes our city great. Maintaining as large a transit system as ours is expensive, no doubt. And maintaining quality, access and service should be the MTA's chief priority.
But New York City transit riders are already paying our fair share. Transit fares cover 65% of the MTA's budget -- more than almost any transit agency in the country. We need our elected leaders in Albany and in City Hall to fund transit fairly.
