Every Worker Should Get Sick Days!

When the Swine Flu outbreak hit NYC, health officials and even President Obama told us to stay home if we felt sick. But for the 1.8 million New Yorkers who don't get a single day of paid sick time where they work, that may not be an option. The Working Families Party is supporting a law that would give every worker in NYC the right to take time off from work when you or a family member gets sick - without losing your pay or risking your job. I have a serious chronic illness and sometime may be admitted into the hospital but have no right to call out because of it. Or if I do I will be penalised. This is very unfair and hard on me. I understand that they need the work done but what about me? I need a job and I need to be healthy in order to work that job. What can I do if I need treatment??? |
